About Pepper Spray Strengths

ALL OC pepper sprays are not all the same, they come in different strengths? All Pepper Sprays are NOT EQUAL. For example the strength used by police are typically lower than the strongest on the market. You may ask, “what strength of pepper spray do the police use?” The police actually find wear-off time of the stronger brands to be a problem, because they have to baby sit the receiver while the effects are present. For this reason many law enforcement officers uses what is called police strength pepper spray, which use the lower percentage active ingredients 2-5% pepper sprays. The strongest concentrations are 17% active ingredients and are rated at 2 million scoville heat units. The high scoville heat rating is more important than the percentage of pepper spray ingredients. When considering which pepper spray is most effective, one must consider the percentage of pepper being used and the heat rating of that pepper (measured in Scoville Heat Units or S.H.U.). If 2-5% is enough to bring down an assailant by the police, just think what 15-17% will so.
