Training with your Pepper Spray

When the time comes, will you know how to use your pepper spray? While it is true that having pepper spray with you is better than not having it, knowing how to use it as well is much better. Let us look at two scenarios

Scenario one:

Imagine if someone is following you, and you feel the uneasy. You have pepper spray on your keys that are in your purse, and the assailant grabs you, and sexually assaults you.

Scenario two:

Imagine if someone is following you, and you feel the uneasy. You have pepper spray on your keys that are in your hands, and as the assailant approaches you, you fumble around trying to finger out how to use your pepper spray, but he grabs you, and sexually assaults you.

While you had pepper spray with you, it really didn’t do you any good now, did it?

Once you have purchased your pepper spray you should experiment and develop practice drills with your pepper spray. Just like in school when you practiced fire drills, you should practice getting to your pepper spray and using it. You should also practice where you carry your pepper spray, if you have it on your key ring; make sure you walk with the pepper spray in your hands. If you carry it clipped to your purse practice getting to it and bringing it to bear just like old west gun fighter. Please keep in mind that if your purse is snatched, you want to keep possession of the pepper spray. Therefore you always want to keep pepper spray close at hand while you are walking, riding a subway, or just standing. If a robber grabs your purse, your pepper spray will be in your and ready to let them have it.

Whenever you are on foot, whether it’s going to your car, leaving a restaurant or store, or out jogging – any time you are by yourself – always carry your pepper spray in your hands and ready you use No matter where you carry your pepper spray, on your key ring, clipped to your purse or on your belt. Know how to get to your pepper spray quickly.

Once actress Robin Curtis said that when she was little, she used to practice hiding in the dryer just in case someone broke into her house. You should think of imaginary situation and learn how to use and spray your pepper spray. You need to become proficient enough to use your pepper spray, quickly and effectively. This is one of the reasons that I suggest that you always purchase two of them, one to use and one to practice with..

The 7 Important Rules for carrying and Using Pepper Spray

  1. Be mindful of your surroundings. Look around and be ready.
  2. Make sure you purchase a reputable brand! Purchase a brand which is backed by ISO 9001:2000 Certification! and has a CHR Rating.

Carrying Pepper Spray

There has been great debate about the role of gun, gun owners, and the type of guns that should or should not be allowed to be owned, carried or used by citizens’ in this country. My only stance is that a person has the right and responsibility to defend and protect themselves and their property against anyone who is attempting to illegally cause harm or damage against them. What you choose to legally own and use is up to you, however make sure you know how to use your defense mechanism of choice correctly. Currently, Pepper Spray is legal to own and carry in all 50 United States, but do you know how to carry it so that you can use it effectively when the time comes?

The type and size of pepper spray that you should carry depends not only on the legal restrictions of where you live but also on your need, ability and comfort level. As we have discussed before Pepper Spray comes is sizes from as small as a half-ounce to a pound. For the average person the key rings model is the right one. These models are about three inches long and about an inch in diameter. Some of the next models have belt holsters and clips. If you find this size inconvenient or unworkable, even with the holster, you should at least carry the key chain model. The primary reason I recommend this model is that so long as you have your keys in hand, your pepper spray is close at hand. You need to be aware of the spray pattern that the pepper spray uses so that you do not accidentally spray yourself, and you need to be mindful of the trigger so that you do not accidentally spray it when you don’t want to.

We do not recommend you carry certain types pepper spray in your pocket or purse like you would lipstick, unless you don’t have a choice. The primary reason for this is you can’t get to it quick enough. Remember if you see that you are being targeted by a possible assailant you only have a few seconds to get your pepper spray in hand. One of the other reasons not to carry pepper spray in your pockets is that you might forget it, and just how many of you have left things in your pockets, and they have ended up in the laundry, or you changed clothes needed something you left in your clothes. In these situations we recommend that you use the pepper spray models that come with a clip. Where ever you clip it just make sure you can get to it and can use it, when the type comes.

Carrying Pepper Spray in your purse

.

Unlike the key chain models mentioned above larger sprays can be carried in a variety of different ways and places. Women usually carry almost everything in their purse, if they use one. I did know a female who used a wallet for her essentials. So how can you carry pepper spray in your purse so that you can get to it quickly and use it when the time comes. Easy, put it where you can get to it! This means that it should not be at the bottom of your purse mixed with your ten-dollar bill, two credit cars , lip stick and wrapped in a napkin. We recommend that for most small models, that you clip your pepper spray to the front end of the inside pocket, flap or divider. Put it where you can get to it quickly, but where it can’t be seen. However if a purse snatch grabs your purse, chances are you can’t get to it as you would like. There are perfume models that are disguised so that in certain situations, your attacker won’t know that it’s pepper spray. However, the same rules apply with this model, put it where you can get to it quickly.

Carrying Pepper Spray on your Belt.

Several Pepper spray models include a holster that allows you to carry your pepper spray on your belt. Some of the key ring models that we sell also have a clip on them so that you have the option to clip them in your purse or belt. The holster models are typically up to 4 ounce models. If your decide on using this model you need to repeatedly practice on how to carry, draw and use this model so that you can use it for the purpose it was intended for. Many experts recommend that the belt models should be carried upside down so that you can “draw” it faster.

Carrying Pepper Spray on your Key Chain.

As I mentioned above one of the most popular models of Pepper Spray are the key chain models. Whenever you carry your keys, there they are. It makes it convenient and easy to get to your pepper spray when you need it. That is so long as you have your keys in hand. What happens when you keys are in your pocket or purse? What happens when you are using your keys to open a lock? Most muggers, car jackets, or other assailants often strike at just the precise moment the door is open and your keys are in the lock. Just where is your pepper spray when you need it? Attached to your key ring! You should either purchase a key separator or break-away key chain. As always you need to me mindful of your environment, be extremely aware of who and what is going on around you as you approach the lock.

Whatever model you choose, please make sure you can get to your pepper spray quickly. Once you get your hands your pepper spray make sure you can get to the trigger and point it at your possible assailant in time. PRACTICE – PRACTICE – PRACTICE

Pepper Spray -It is no longer an option

It is a simple fact using pepper spray works.  Even criminals are aware of this. Look that these examples from the news.

  • Georgetown County deputies are looking for two men involved in a home invasion. According to the sheriff’s deputies, two men armed with a shotgun and mace kicked in the door of a home around 12:05 a.m
  • MOUNT PLEASANT — Police have arrested two men accused of spraying a store employee with pepper spray as they stole nearly $5,000 worth of jeans in January

Pepper spray is often overlooked as a personal protection product.  Most people have heard of pepper spray, but do you know how and why it works, or what exactly is inside the little canister that you should be carrying?

So why don’t you have pepper spray as part of your self-defense?

Using pepper as a defensive tool is not new. The Chinese have been using pepper and spices to throw at their enemies for literally thousands of years. In 1864 Germans used tear gas for the first time.

The first personal defense sprays, first developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, contained Oleoresin Capsicum, or OC. This oil extracted from peppers of the Capsicum family is known to cause coughing, watery eyes, and a burning sensation on the skin. The oleoresin capsicum is what gives the peppers their extremely effective heat. Originally, it was extracted from chili peppers, and then powdered for use in pepper sprays.

Today, most pepper sprays are actually made from chemicals, such as Chloracetophenone (CN) or Orthochlorobenzalmalonitrile (CS). These chemicals usually affect the tear ducts, as well as irritating the eyes, nerve endings, mucous membranes, and skin. Modern pepper sprays also restrict breathing.  A person who can’t breathe, can’t function. Today, sprays may include CN, CS, OC, or a combination of these chemicals, because some people are more affected by one than by the other two.

Pepper spray is seven times hotter than a habanera pepper. A burst of pepper spray in your attackers’ face will cause the attacker to have shortness of breath, temporary blindness due to excessive tearing and the eyes actually shutting down, coughing and choking. It is very nasty stuff, and will probably make the attacker wish they had made better life choices.

Be warned, not all pepper sprays are equal. They are rated in Scoville Heat Units (SHUs), just like very hot peppers. This measurement is directly related to how effective the pepper spray will be. Most currently available have a rating of around 1 and a half to 3 million SHU. A very hot habanero pepper is close to 2 million SHUs, for comparison. The higher the SHU, the hotter the spray, although any of the commercially available pepper sprays should be plenty to stop an attacker. When considering which pepper spray is most effective, one must consider the percentage of pepper being used and the heat rating of that pepper (measured in Scoville Heat Units or S.H.U.). They come in a variety of effectiveness ratings. Most are designed to stop humans, while others are rated for dogs or bears.

Most military and law enforcement personnel can testify to the effectiveness of these chemicals against ordinary citizens. Most soldiers can’t tell you about their experience in the ‘Gas Chamber’  as part of their Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical training.  Police Academies today all over the country have their trainee’s experience what pepper spray is like.

Pepper Spray works very well against animals with sensitive noses especially bears, mountain lions, and
most  dogs. The U.S. Postal Service has most of it’s’ carriers carry pepper spray. How is that for a testimony?

So why don’t you have pepper spray as part of your self -defense?

Pepper Spray is legal in all 50 states (with certain restriction) and relatively easy to buy from various stores and web sites. Pepper sprays are a favorite protection product of women because they are small, effective, and easy to use and to carry.

Like any personal protection product, some training should take place before use. The purpose is to effectively use it in order to give you time to escape or get help not severely injure or maim. The effects of pepper spray can last as long as 30-45 minutes giving you more than enough time to get away with no lasting damage to the bad guys. The nice thing about pepper spray is that should you kids find it, you won’t have to worry about the long effects of it going off.

Please note that pepper spray has been known to have no or little effect on people who are on mind altering pharmaceutical products (drugs) or and some drunk.  Pepper spray may also have limited impact on aggressive dogs breeds like Dobermans, pit bulls, or German Shepherds.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, non lethal and effective tool in the fight against crime and a tool for your own personal protection pepper spray is it.

If you don’t have some now ..what are you waiting for?

Why Pepper Spray Works?

When pepper spray is sprayed into anyone eyes or face, it irritates the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes and tissues of the upper respiratory tract (throat). This causes lots of coughing and choking for the recipient. Pepper Spray is extremely uncomfortable and there will be great pain associated with it being sprayed on your attacker. The end result is temporary incapacitation, mostly due to not being able to see and breath. This extremely uncomfortable sensation lasts for about 20 minutes which is enough time for you to get away, call the police and tweet to your friends how you took down a punk. The sensation is too much for your attacker that it keeps your them too preoccupied with the blinding and painful experience to even attempt to do anything to retaliate.

PLEASE NOTE: chemical sprays such as MACE and pepper spray are for personal protection only to fend off an attacker. Pepper spray is not to be used offensively to protect property or on someone you are pisses at or want to prank. Pepper spray is non-toxic and non-flammable.
