Knock, Knock – Whos There?

Home invasions stories still pepper the daily news. How confident are you that you won’t be next. What if I told you that according to the FBI One in five homes will experience a break-in this year? What if I told you, the FBI says every 12 seconds a home is invaded by going right through the front or back door? How confident are you now? Lucky for us there are all kinds of countermeasures that we can install to reduce our chances of being a victim of a home invasion. I’m not going to re-hash some previous blog entries, but some of these include door stopper, door alarms, dead-bolt locks, and even door strike reinforces like the strike master II. However, no amount of security devices will do you any good if you simply let the big bad wolf in the front door.

Imagine hearing a knock at the door and you hear ‘delivery for <your name>’ If you open your front door without knowing what is on the other side, than the criminal can simply force their way in.

When I bought my house there was no way to tell who was at the front door, and I know there are lots of businesses that have solid back doors that don’t allow them to see who is knocking at their door. In fact a restaurant was robbed the other day by a burglar simply knocking on their back door.

There are two things you can do.

  1. Install a FISH-EYE Peephole. I recommend the fish-eye type as they allow you to see whose outside of your door even if there is someone ducking out of sight. Conventional door peepholes only give you a very limited view of who is outside your door. Your door is your first and last barrier to protect yourself and your family from potentially dangerous situations, such as forced entry or home invasion. Your best security investment is a high quality door viewer. Peepholes cost less than $5 from a hardware or home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes.
  2. A security camera is something another counter measure. They offer you the advantage of knowing who is at your door and possible recording any activity outside of your door even when you are now home.

PepperEyes.com is an online supplier of a wide variety of high quality, discount Pepper Sprays and discount Stun Guns, and other protection products.  As an online-retailer, I do lots of on-line marketing. One of the places that I advertise some of my great products is the Facebook Market place. This an on-line flea market sort-a like Craig’s list meets the flea market. Like any place where people can advertise their items, the market place is ripe of on-line scammers.

Here is an example sellers need to be aware of.

First you get an e-mail like this one:

Hello,
i am interested to buy your item, is it still available?

if yes.tell me the final asking price, and send me more pics via halleybridge10003@yahoo.com hope to read from you soon.

Thanks

So you reply telling the buyer how they can purchase the item, and this is what you get as a reply.

Hello,
thanks for your reply.i want you to give me the list of all the items you have for sale including their prices may be i will like to buy more of it.i agree to pay the amount you want as final asking price of the item.i am purchasing this item for my boss.my mode of payment is Cashier Check.my boss will include my commission and the shipping fees in your payment.that means the amount on the payment will be more than the item fees.then you must deduct your fees and send back the rest fund.do not worry your self about the shipment.i do have a private shipping company that will come and pick up the item at your address the next day you get the payment.email me the full name and address to send out the Check Payment.let me know if you understand that the amount that will be on the payment will be more than your item fees.i want you to close the advert right away.i will add extra $20 in your payment for doing that.let me know if you agree to deduct your fees and send back the left fund as my commission/shipping. make sure you email me the final asking price you want for the item in your reply.

Anyway below are the questions i have for you.
1)Is the item in good condition?

2)Can you make sure you get the Cashier Check cash at your bank in one business day and send the left fund the same day?

3)Do you agree to deduct your item fees and send back the left fund as my commission and shipping fees the day you get the payment?

4)Do you understand that the shipping company will come and pick the item at your address the next day you receive the payment?

SAFETY Rules.

  1. Beware offers peppered with bad grammer and spelling..
  2. If the offer is too good to be true.. SCAM ALERT
  3. Any buyer who wants to pay you more than you are asking is scamming you.
  4. Cashier Check can be faked..and you will be on the hook for anything you cash at a bank.
  5. If you are going to do business on-line develop a policy that provides safety for you and your customers.
  6. One of the reasons we like using PayPal is that they will verify the fund for checks before transferring them into your account.

Which Personal Protection Product is Right for You?

Okay so you have made a conscious decision to get a non-lethal Personal Protection Product instead of a gun. Now what? Non-lethal personal protection products are gaining in popularity because they are effective against assaults. Martial arts and other self-defense courses are very beneficial to know. However, many citizens don’t have the time to devote to master those skills. Non-lethal personal protection product such as stun guns, pepper sprays, tasers, etc. are a more sensible way to go.

Before you go out and buy a non-lethal personal protection product you should consider some of the following:

Which Product Best for You?
Study and learn as much as you can about each product. Ask your dealer what he suggests. See what device is going to be right for you both on a physical and mental level. There is an advantages and disadvantages to each product which ones are OK for you. For example TASERS can be used at long distances and stun guns need direct contact. TASERS. However TASERS have been known to kill their targets and you get only one shot during an attack.

Know How to Use it
Having a personal protection product and not knowing how to use it can injure you as easily as it can hurt your assailant. Once you have chosen a self-defense product, ask for proper instructions on how to use it, or take a course in using the products properly. Then PRACTICE using it until it becomes second nature. How quickly can you get to it and use it. How effectively can you hit a target coming at you? What if you get attacked from behind, would you know what to do?

Is it Legal in your Area?
You don’t want the embarrassment of being harassed by a law enforcement officer. Take the time to see if you are allowed to carry the self-defense product you have chosen. Your local police department, sheriff and even the internet can help you or check my website www.peppereyes.com for pepper spray laws or stun gun laws.

 There can be only one!
You don’t need to carry pepper spray, a stun gun, a taser, a stun baton, and a stick If pepper spray is going to give you the advantage you need to defend against an assailant, then there is really no need to carry stun guns, or a taser. If you are proficient with a stun gun or a taser, then you don’t need to carry pepper spray. If you really want to carry a gun, then forget anything non-lethal, and pray you hit only your target. When the time comes to use the device of your choice there cannot be any indecision as to which to use.

Conclusion

It’s a fact Personal Protection Products can get you out of a dangerous situation – there is no doubt about that. Unless you know what you require, and how to use that product, and the legality of it, you may be getting yourself into trouble. You can actually do yourself more harm than good, by not doing your research before you invest time and money into any self-defense products. Personal Protection Products can save your life, your money and provide you with peace of mind.

Internet Domain Scam Alert

In one of my other posts titled We want to buy your products. I told how PepeprEyes.com often receives these e-mails that are internet scams. A few days ago I received this Domain Name scam e-mail.

Dear Manager,

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On August,12th,2010, We received HUATAI Company’s application that they are registering the name “peppereyes” as their Internet Trademark and “peppereyes.cn“,”peppereyes.com.cn” ,”peppereyes.asia”domain names etc.,It is China and ASIA domain names. But after auditing we found the brand name been used by your company. As the domain name registrar in China, it is our duty to notice you, so I am sending you this Email to check.According to the principle in China, your company is the owner of the trademark,In our auditing time we can keep the domain names safe for you firstly, but our audit period is limited, if you object the third party application these domain names and need to protect the brand in china and Asia by yourself, please let the responsible officer contact us as soon as possible. When I received the e-mail I had several thoughts that went through my mind. First, what can I do? The second, is this for real? I entered my detective mode, I searched the planetary databases (Google, Yahoo, Bing) for the exact wording of the first sentence. It didn’t take long to see that others have received this e-mail as well.

The aim of the e-mail is to make me purchase alternates of my domain from another company in order to ‘protect’ my business. They would suggest that you protect yourself from each countries own suffix, you find yourself in a position where suddenly it’s no longer just “.com”, but also “.net” “.co.uk” “.co.nz” and the list just goes on and on.

And before you go ridicule, this is a serious issue. Can you imagine PepperEyes.com having the hassle of registering the website names like PepperEyes.co.nz, PepperEyes.com.au, PepperEyes.com.cn, PepperEyes.co.uk, PepperEyes.it .. etc. How much would the victim end up spending? There have been lots of companies and individuals already scammed.

As of 2001, the Federal Trade Commission has asked a U.S. District Court Judge to halt an Internet domain name scheme that dupes consumers into needlessly registering variations of their existing domain names by deceptively contending that a third party like in the above e-mail, acting in bad faith, is about to claim it. The agency estimates that, at a minimum, 27,000 consumers may have been victims of the scam as of that time. At the agency’s request, the court has issued a Temporary Restraining Order, frozen the defendants’ assets, and shut down their Web sites, pending trial. The FTC has asked the court to bar the scheme permanently and order consumer redress.

Beware of any e-mail you receive from any company from any country. These e-mails not only come from China, but also Canada.

Who will cry for the little child who knows hurt and pain?

Of all the crime news that we hear in the news, I believe that crimes against children affect us the most. This week we had another story of a mother killing her own children. Sadly crimes against children are not isolated incidents. They just largely underreported due to the political football that takes up more of the airwaves. Here are a few articles that I was able to pull from this week headlines.

  • 200,000 children are victims of family abduction each year—new documents available to help families.
  • Criminals are looking for Your Child on the Internet—Right Now!
  • 70 percent of youth report past traumatic experience including physical or sexual abuse
  • Crime News:Two-thirds of human trafficking victims were age 17 or younger
  • Mom accused of killing sons does not enter plea
  • Prosecutor: Girl, 7, sexually assaulted, suffocated

Young children and teenagers have among the highest rates of conventional crime victimization and, in addition, they suffer from some crimes – like sexual abuse and family abduction — specific to childhood. Despite media publicity about crime and youth, however, this high vulnerability is seldom mentioned. These facts and statistics about crimes against children are compiled from a variety of sources.

The children most often targeted for a crime are those unsupervised by adults who, therefore, innocently wander in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is particularly true in apparently safe locations such as busy grocery stores, or department stores, or other large stores. We’re more likely to watch our children carefully when they’re in a playground, near water, or in other places where we think the possibility of danger is great. But when you are shopping we’re more likely to be distracted by the task at hand – whether it’s buying groceries or trying on a new outfit, or reading the back of a CD. Sadly, but true in today’s society children aren’t even safe playing in front of their house or walking around in their neighborhoods. Those who wish to harm children know where to find their best opportunities: exactly the places where parents may be least likely to keep an eye on their children at all times.

As parents or responsible citizens we certainly can’t prevent every injury, either emotional or physical which a child is likely to experience as a part of growing up. We can however, learn to provide a loving blanket of awareness that will go a long way toward avoiding those worst possible horrors. Keeping our children safe is our highest priority, as it should be, I believe for all TRUE parents.

There are lots of things you can do to keep your child safe.

  1. Teach them that monsters do exist that may do them harm, so that they don’t stray.
  2. NEVER LET YOUR CHILD out of your direct line of sight.
  3. Take note of any stranger or unsavory character that may interact with your child.
  4. Make a video and get the finger prints of your child, just in case something happens.
  5. Never have your child in any situation when someone could just grab them and get away.

There are lots of web sites and blogs that have other safety tips; educating yourself and taking life changing steps are the only way to reduce your chances of being victimized.
